01

Choose the relevant tool

Find a calculator by specialty or name. Confirm that it addresses the question you have.

02

Inspect the original reference

Check the intended population, outcome and time horizon. Read the limitations alongside the formula.

03

Check inputs and units

Use the tool's required units and valid ranges. Missing information should remain missing rather than guessed.

04

Review its limits

A score supports interpretation within its intended setting. Consult the relevant source and local guidance before applying it.

05

A worked workflow example

Inspect eGFR (CKD-EPI 2021) with fictional teaching inputs. Check its units, references and result structure. This exercise does not assess a patient or provide a treatment decision.

  1. Your input

Use a fictional teaching record: age 55 years, sex female and creatinine 1.0 mg/dL. These values identify no person. Use the form's requested units. Do not paste a value in µmol/L into a field labelled mg/dL.

  2. In AttendMe

Open Clinical Calculators and search eGFR. Open eGFR (CKD-EPI 2021). Read References and Interpretation. Enter the fictional values in the Calculate panel, then select Calculate. Leave an unknown required input unresolved; this exercise supplies values only to demonstrate the interface.

  3. What you inspect

Check the displayed value, unit, interpretation and warnings in Result. Verify the equation and intended use against the original reference. Confirm that this is CKD-EPI 2021, rather than another renal function tool. This guide provides no expected clinical category or treatment instruction.

  4. Your reviewed result

Example teaching record: 'Tool: eGFR (CKD-EPI 2021). Inputs: fictional age, sex and creatinine with units. Result: copy the actual value and unit. Reference: inspect the cited source. Limit: record the stated applicability limits.' The result is an inspectable calculation, not an individual management plan.

06

Before you reuse the result

Use this final check to decide whether the work is ready to discuss, save or continue. A useful output preserves its evidence, its scope and the questions it could not answer.

  • The tool name and equation version match the intended exercise.
  • Each fictional input uses the required unit and definition.
  • The recorded result includes its unit and stated limitations.
  • You inspected the original reference before interpreting the calculation.
